Your team is slammed.
Deadlines are getting tight.
People are complaining that they have too much work.
So naturally, you think:
“We need to hire someone.”
I made this mistake more than a few times.
And here's the frustrating part
You hire someone.
Three months later, everyone is STILL slammed.
Except now you've added another $60–100K+ to payroll.
So what happened?
The problem is that “we're at capacity” is a symptom.
It doesn't tell you what the actual constraint is.
Sometimes you genuinely need more people.
But sometimes you've got enough people already, you're just wasting a huge chunk of their capacity.
Unclear ownership.
Too many meetings.
Work getting redone.
Approvals waiting on you.
Senior people doing low-value work.
Scope creep.
Bad fit clients.
And the list goes on.
In this solo episode, I break down the difference between true resource capacity and operational capacity and why confusing the two can absolutely destroy your margins.
I also walk through the 7 questions I now ask before making a hiring decision.
Including one question that completely changes how you think about adding headcount.
Because there's a massive difference between:
“Everyone is busy, so let's hire.”
And:
“We know exactly where the constraint is, and we know the hire will solve it.”
