Most founders think that asking their team for updates is just part of good management: a quick Slack message, a quick call, a quick "Where are we at with this?"

But… think about it.

Every time you have to ask her for an update, it's actually a sign that your system has already failed.

Not the person but the system.

In a healthy agency, important work shouldn't disappear until someone remembers to ask about it.

You should already know:

  • Who owns it

  • When it's due

  • What's been completed

  • What's blocked

  • What happens next

Instead, most founders become the tracking system.

And that's exactly why growth starts feeling heavier every year.

In this solo episode, I break down why founders get trapped in reactive management and how to build an operating system that surfaces problems before they become emergencies.

A few things I cover:

  • Why ownership has nothing to do with simply completing tasks

  • The dangerous habit that trains your team to become reactive

  • The simple framework I use to eliminate constant status-chasing

One idea in particular changed the way I think about accountability:

If you have to ask for the same update twice, stop chasing the person and fix the system.
