Have you ever looked at a task and thought, “I’m the only one who can do this”?
I used to tell myself that, too. Especially for the steps where real expertise lives, the judgment calls, the nuance, the “feel.” The spots I’d never hand off because I didn’t want to gamble on quality.
Here’s the punchline: that’s no longer true.
I don’t need another expert. I just need a well trained person with a custom tool.
Most founders think the blocker is their team’s skill gap.
What’s actually happening is they’re trying to delegate expertise instead of delegating the tool that produces expert-level output.
3️⃣ I turn one high-leverage step into a custom GPT. It gets someone 80% of the way there consistently.
2️⃣ My team member cleans up the remaining 5–10%. I finalize the last 5% if needed.
1️⃣ Over time, they learn the expertise simply by using the tool every week.
The result? One person outputs the equivalent of three or four without burnout, without heroics, and without me jumping back into operator mode.
The Fix
• Take one workflow you avoid delegating and isolate the “expertise step.”
• Turn your current thinking, criteria, and examples into a custom GPT your team can run.
• Insert that tool directly into the SOP as the required step, not a suggestion.
