I used to think more revenue was always a good thing.
Then I learned the hard way that not all revenue is good revenue.
That’s one of the things I dug into with Dominick DeJoy, founder of Osric Digital.
When he started his agency, he fell into a trap I see all the time.
A client would ask, “Can you also do this?”
And instead of saying no, he’d figure out how to deliver it.
SEO.
Content.
Web design.
Whatever the client wanted.
It worked.
In fact, he went from about $2K/month in his first month to $30K/month just a few months later.
But there was a problem.
All that extra revenue created a ridiculously complex business.
And eventually, it burned him out.
In our conversation, we get into:
The moment his business finally started feeling like an agency
Why hiring his first account manager actually forced him to change how he sold
The surprisingly simple reason agencies fall into boom-and-bust pipeline cycles
And why he believes saying “no” to a client can sometimes be the best growth decision you make
There’s one part of the conversation where Dominick explains the mindset that kept him stuck in that cycle for longer than he should have been.
I thought that one was especially interesting.
